Online fraud can happen anytime, anywhere. When fraudsters have your identity information, they don't need your passwords or your authorisation to steal your money and damage your credit score.

A TV report featured a victim who lost her Hong Kong Identity Card three years ago. She only discovered that multiple loans had been fraudulently taken out in her name, accumulating debts of HK$2.5 million, after receiving a debt collection notice and checking her credit report.

Your personal information deserves 24 x 7 protection. TransUnion Credit Alert Service is built around an alert-based monitoring system. Whenever important changes appear on your credit report, you will receive instant SMS and email notifications — acting like your personal “Impersonation Loan Alert System.”

Triple Warning Signs to Help You Stay Vigilant
To borrow in your name, fraudsters must first open a credit account. TransUnion’s Credit Monitoring Service tracks this from the very first step, triggering alerts the moment suspicious activity occurs!
Warning Sign 1:
Address AND/OR Phone Change Alert
When fraudsters attempt to open a credit account using your identity, they are typically required to provide an address and phone number. As they often do not have access to your genuine contact information, or wish to avoid detection, they frequently use false details. If a new address and/or phone number is added or updated in your credit records, TransUnion will send you an Address and/or Telephone Change Alert to notify you of the change.
Warning Sign 2:
Credit Enquiry Alert
If a fraudster manages to get past the initial application stage and proceeds with a loan or credit application, the lender will typically check the applicant's credit report. At that moment, TransUnion will notify you of the credit enquiry.
Warning Sign 3:
New Credit Account Alert
Even if a fraudster is experienced and bypasses initial checks of “Credit Enquiry Alert”, they can’t hide for long. All new credit accounts must be uploaded to the Credit Reference Platform (CRP). If a new credit account is opened in your name, TransUnion Credit Alert will notify you.
Identity theft happens in a flash. Don't let your personal identity become a fraudster’s ATM!
On top of the above alerts, TransUnion offers four additional alerts to help safeguard your credit health. Learn more now

Identity theft is rarely a single event. It is often a chain reaction — from altered personal details and credit inquiries to newly opened accounts and repayment abnormalities.
The earlier you are alerted to any one of these changes, the earlier you can take action — contacting the relevant institutions promptly, containing the risk at its source, and minimising potential loss.

Transunion’s credit scoring takes into account a comprehensive set of credit and public record data to ensure that consumers are reliably and fairly represented with statistic support, while helping financial institutions manage risk appropriately. Financial institutions’ risk appetites may vary, and credit scores are among many factors that lenders take into account when it comes to extending credit. Transunion’s proprietary scoring algorithms, containing dozens of data attributes, is an analysis built upon decades of market experience, industry insights and expertise in Hong Kong and around the globe. The credit-related behaviours it analyses can trigger multiple attributes that affect a person’s credit score, subject to different situations. While building credit health is always attainable, it generally takes time and consistent healthy credit habits to see an improvement.
